India’s Mahindra Racing enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the Berlin EPrix, enjoying their first ever win in Formula E and also taking a couple of podiums and a pole position over the two races.
Felix Rosenqvist took his and the team’s first victory in Race 1 as the M4Electro pulled away from the field and dominated the race. Second placed Di Grassi was 2.2 seconds behind Rosenqvist and he was followed by Mahindra’s other driver Nick Heidfeld, who made it 3 podiums from 3 consecutive races.
Race 2 was also pretty successful but not to a great extent as Rosenqvist received a 10 second time penalty for an unsafe release in the pitlane. This demoted him from another victory to second place behind Renault E.Dams’ Sebastian Buemi. Heidfeld had a fantastic race, climbing up 10 places over the course of the race after starting dead last in 20th.
Team Principal Dilbagh Gill was absolutely ecstatic when all of his and the crew’s hardwork finally paid off. Not only was the M4Electro fast, it was easily the fastest car on the grid in Berlin. Unlike most other teams, Mahindra hit the right setup and the results are open for all too see.
This is a very significant weekend in Indian motorsport as it marks the first time that an Indian team has triumphed in an FIA-affiliated event. Hopefully, their fascinating form will continue throughout the season which will help them finish in a really high position in the Constructors’ World Championship.
