Welcome along, folks! Its time to take a swift look back the MotoGP: 2019 Qatar Grand Prix.
In traditional fashion, the race started under the lights and Yamaha’s Maverick Viňales was on pole position.
In the first corner though, Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso showed the world that he was the top gun by taking the lead at the start.
A partially injured Marc Marquez then decided to add some spice to the race by joining the titanic battle between Dovizioso and Suzuki’s Alex Rins. There was overtaking left right and center; soon the leading group became larger with Cal Crutchlow increasing the Honda representation and Valentino Rossi and Danilo Petrucci joining the party, making it a true ‘spettacolo’.
Further down the grid, it was a tale of two rookies.
Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quatararo stalled his bike before the warm up lap, thus being forced to start from the pit. Up ahead, Joan Mir of Suzuki was declaring war on the big boys and looking perfectly comfortable at the front.
Quatararo then recovered spectacularly and clocked in some really quick laps to finish 16th while Mir finished strongly in 8th.
The duel in the desert
The battle at the front became hotter and hotter but towards the end the timeless rivalry of the Superman and the Batman of MotoGP became the one for the race win; it was Marquez on the Honda squaring up against Dovizioso on the Ducati.
Just like the countless times we have seen before, Marquez lunged down the inside at the last corner but Dovizioso defended well and got the cutback, powering out onto the main straight and winning the race from Marquez by a whisker!
If this were football, you could say that the Ducati rider completely marked Marquez!
Midfield Madness
Behind, Cal Crutchlow put in a remarkable performance to finish third regardless of his injury and Alex Rins was fourth followed by the Doctor, Valentino Rossi who staged a classic comeback to finish fifth after a forgetful qualifying.
Jack Miller produced the wackiest moment of the race when he threw his seat and a podium spot away in the middle of the race; an issue with the seat put and end to his chances to get on the podium in Qatar. A sad end to what seemed to be a very promising race for the Aussie.
Jorge Lorenzo finished in 13th on his Honda debut, making it a race to forget for the injured Spaniard. Hopefully he will return to his best once he recovers from his injuries.
However, on the brighter side of things, in this race, we saw the Top 15 being within only 15 seconds of each other!
This simply puts a stamp on the claim that the 2019 MotoGP season is bound to be one of the most exciting ones in history!
There is a lot to excite us, MotoGP fans; the MotoGP: 2019 Qatar Grand Prix showed us that Ducati, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki are all very well in contention for race wins! Now that’s what I call good news!
