Upon his return to racing last season, Advait Deodhar shocked many with his astounding performances in the Elite Club category of the Whelen NASCAR Euro Series. The racing driver turned-yacht broker raced stock cars for the first time in his career in 2018 and remarkably, he sealed the Elite Club championship in style at the final round of the season in Zolder!
A man of his word!
In an episode of Life In The Fast Lane that I shot with him at the end of last season, Advait made a confident prediction for the forthcoming season, in which he would be taking a step up to the Elite 2 category. Advait said that if he wouldn’t be the champion of the category, he would definitely be in the Top 3; four rounds into the season, Advait has proved that he is a man of his word.
Battling against the familiar and highly discouraging budget issues faced by most racing drivers at some point or the other (unless your name is Lance Stroll), Advait has made his way into P3 in the championship standings, trailing the leader by merely 36 points. In any other motorsport series, that would seem like a ginormous margin but that isn’t exactly the case with Euro NASCAR; one great weekend, preferably with a race win and Advait could easily top the championship.
The challenge of the NASCAR Euro Series
‘Is the series any competitive,’ you ask? Yes, indeed. According to Advait, this season features the strongest field that the championship has ever seen, with drivers who have competed in the 24 Hours Of Le Mans, GP3, World Series 3.5, LMP3, NASCAR USA and the Blancpain GT Series among others. Keeping that in mind, Advait, who has only recently returned from a long hiatus from racing, has been one of the biggest revelations on the grid.
Can Advait win the Elite 2 championship?
A stunning second place finish at Brands Hatch and a controlled drive last time out at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic have been a few of the highlights of Advait’s season and you can tell by his performances that the elusive first win in Elite 2 is definitely on the cards.
With only three more rounds left till the end of the season, it will be an extremely pleasing sight to see Advait winning the Euro NASCAR Elite 2 championship in the final round at Zolder for a second year running! Can he get the job done? I certainly hope that he does!
