Nine Year Old Ranvir Singh From Pune Is A Karting Prodigy. He Is Super Fast And Loves To Overtake His Opponents. He Achieved 9 Podiums In 15 Races Last Year And Is Hungry For More. Today, We Go Into Conversation With ‘Racer Ranvir’.
Soumil: So Ranvir, Who Is Your Favourite Driver; The One That You Just Love To Watch Race?
Ranvir: Lewis Hamilton
S: What do you like about his racing style and you try to implement on track?
R: Lewis always pushes hard and tries to overtake and I try to do the same. I keep on driving fast and try to overtake the driver ahead of me. If overtaking becomes tough, I try to force the driver ahead into making a mistake! I also love the way Lewis takes his racing lines and I try to learn from him at all times.
S: What goes on in your mind during a race; what kind of mindset do you keep as the race progresses?
R: My coaches and parents always tell me to stay calm and focused and do my job as nicely as possible. You always perform better when you are focused. I also try to be very patient while being aggressive and wait for the driver ahead to make a mistake so that I can capitalize on it!

S: You have raced on several tracks across the country; is there any specific racetrack that you love racing at?
R: All of the tracks are very fun to drive on and they give a different challenge so I can’t really choose from any of them!
S: Cars are your first love and you started karting at the age of 5. Although it is too early to ask this question but where would you like to see yourself in the future?
R: In Formula One, doing what Lewis Hamilton has done!
S: Being a Formula One World Champion?
R: Exactly!
S: What kind of support are you receiving from your coaches and your parents regarding your racing?
R: My parents are very very supportive and they always motivate me . They understood my love for cars and took me into the world of karting. We signed up for the Rayo Racing (Karting School in Pune) and from then on, everything began. My coaches are always very positive and encouraging and they always share knowledge with me about how to drive the kart even faster. They advise my parents whats best for my racing including my diet and my training regime and we follow the same. At present, I am training with BPC Racing which is based out of Bangalore. Throughout all of this, my parents have always thought what’s best for me and supported me to a great extent.

S: Racing is a physically demanding sport and hardcore training is a must. What do you do to keep yourself fit and in the right condition?
R: I agree, racing is very physically demanding. I do various different things to keep myself fit; basketball is also a very challenging sport for the body and I play a lot of it. I also jog consistently and do 20 pushups, 30 crunches and 500 skippings a day! All of this helps me get accustomed to the heat that we drivers face in the kart while driving.
S: You have had 12 podiums till date; which one out of those was your favourite and why?
R: My personal favourite was when I won the Rotax race in the mini category Hyderabad in Round 2 of the championship. I started second on the grid based on the qualifying timings and first in my category. In the race, I finished 5th overall and 1st in the mini category! It was a wonderful day!
S: Finally, when and where are you racing next and what is the goal for the weekend?
R: I am racing in Bangalore on the 26th and the 27th of August for the third round of the Rotax Championship. Before that, I am going to the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia for the fifth round of the Rotax Asia Championship on the 19th of August. I am looking to learn something new and get the best result possible!
S: Okay, one last question! Superman or Batman?
R: Iron Man!
Ranvir is a very exciting and rational driver but doesn’t mind getting aggressive if it is required to. Racing was Ranvir’s personal choice and he was reluctant to leave it no matter what. By the time he was 18 months old, he knew the names of most cars on the road! Ranvir first drove a kart at the tender age of 5 and he has been learning ever since.
He is completely focused on racing and to devote more time to it, Ranvir’s parents have decided to home-school him. He has often told his parents that ‘racing is his life and that’s what he wants to do in the future’. He spent two years with Rayo Racing and presently, he trains with BPC Racing.
Ranvir has always been in the presence of great coaches and he has been getting the right amount of exposure. His talent has earned him a lot of attention and praise from several notable personalities in racing, including Rayomand Banajee, one of India’s most successful racing driver and team owner.
Exciting times lie ahead for Ranvir and Indian motorsport!
