Rayo Racing’s Aaroh Ravindra won his first National Karting Championship on sunday, after a second place finish in the fifth round of the Meco FMSCI NAtional Rotax KArting Championship. Aaroh dominated the championship and also scored a hat-trick of wins on his way to winning the national championship.
In the pre-final, Aaroh finished second to Chennai’s Nirmal while Manav Sharma of BPC Racing rounded off the podium places. At the end of the pre-final, Aaroh had already sealed the title but he wanted to compete in the final and increase his points tally.
In the final, a close battle between Rayo Racing teammates Aaroh Ravindra and Aanjan Patodia saw the latter win the race by a mere 0.3 seconds, making it a memorable 1-2 for Rayo Racing.
Aaroh took control of the championship and never let it go, being the driver who took the most wins in the championship. The Mumbaikar won title by a margin of 33 points over Nirmal Umashankar of M Sport.
“It was an amazing start to the year, with a hat trick of victories. A double runner-up finish in the last 2 rounds was not bad either. It has been hard work by everyone involved & I really want to thank Steve for his efforts, as well as all our sponsors & my family for their support,” said the newly crowned National Rotax Champion, Aaroh Ravindra, who struggled with financial issues prior to this season.
He continued, “I have had very limited track time over the last 2 years due to the lack of a budget. The World Finals are going to be tough competing against the 72 best drivers from around the world, but I will be working hard over the next few weeks to prepare in the best possible way.”
With this win, Aaroh gets a ticket to represent India at the World Rotax Finals at the Portimao circuit in Portugal along with Yash Aradhya and Ruhaan Alva. There, drivers from 50 countries will compete to be crowned the 2017 World Rotax Champion.
