Motorsport is not a sport for the ordinary. This is the place where the search for perfection drives some of the brightest minds in the world, the place where winning means everything. But have you ever wondered how this ludicrously attractive sport came into existence? Why did it all begin? Why do people race in the very first place?
Born on the racetrack; built for the road
Many believe that racing was born the moment the second car took to the road. The quest to build the fastest, most advanced car that can capture the hearts and minds of petrolheads around the world was the base on which motorsport was built upon. Today, the quest still continues.
This was exactly where the motto ‘Race on Sunday, sell on Monday’ was born; in the manic world of motorsport, the search for perfection acts as a catalyst of the development of technology that can be brought down to the road cars. Take the KERS system for example. The racetrack is where such groundbreaking innovations first materialize; eventually, they are used on the road in commercial vehicles with great significance.
Formula E – The Ultimate Modern Proving Ground
Back in the day, the 24 Hours Of Le Mans race was the ultimate platform for car manufacturers to prove their mettle and show that their machinery was the fastest, most advanced and reliable available on the market.
Today, however, with a massive surge in electric mobility and an ever-growing love for racing on street circuits, there is a new, even more competitive proving ground for future automotive technology – Formula E.
Since its very outset, Mahindra Racing has been an ever-present team in the world’s first all-electric single seater racing series. Today, the Mahindra electric powertrains are a class apart from what they were before the five truly fruitful and successful years in Formula E and now, the technology from these powertrains will finally be brought to the road in a spine-tingling manner – they will be used in a stunning, new all-electric hypercar.
The Birth Of The Pininfarina Battista
For the first time in its long and proud history, Italian automotive icon, Automobili Pininfarina has now decided to take its prowess of design up a notch and build an extreme 1,900 horsepower hypercar that will make you fall in love with it at first sight.
The Battista, which is named after the late legendary founder of Pininfarina, Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, is the realisation of a lifelong dream of Pininfarina’s current chairman Paolo Pininfarina, who is the grandson of the founder. Pininfarina have designed some true classics over the years and the all new fully-electric Battista has all the capabilities to join the prized list. By being the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built in Italy, the Battista is already building special bonds with motoring enthusiasts all over the world.
Powered by the technology that has driven Mahindra Racing to great success over the last five years, the elegant, yet menacing Battista is a true representation of Mahindra’s ‘Race to Road’ strategy. The advanced and innovative systems that have been tried and tested in the battle ground that is Formula E will be brought to the road in 2020, when the Pininfarina Battista takes over the roads worldwide with its electrifying performance and its alluring looks, a trademark of all Pininfarina cars.
‘Just how electrifying is the performance of the Battista’, you ask?
More than you would have ever imagined. Don’t be fooled by the elegance and the grace of the Battista. This beauty has all the technology in the world to become a fiesty beast the moment you put your foot down. To put things into perspective, the Battista can go from a speed of 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in under two seconds! That is faster than a present day Formula One racecar! Catch it if you can! By producing 1,900 all-electric Italian horsepower and a whopping 2,300 Nm of Torque all while being so aesthetically pleasing is what makes the Battista the equilibrium of extremes.
The technology that has been brought down from the Mahindra Formula E programme has already demonstrated that it can move mountains with its demonic performance but will the 150 Battista owners across the globe get any efficiency for their money?
The answer is, once again, more than they would have ever imagined. With a range of a mind-blowing 450 kilometers at one charge, the Battista clearly represents the reliability and electric efficiency that the Mahindra Racing Formula E Team have been striving to achieve. With a 120 kWh battery pack and systems such as all wheel drive, torque vectoring and five different drive modes, the Battista is able to be a monster on the track and yet, be a comfortable place to be on the road.
Speed, luxury and practicality
Being electric, the Battista produces a stunning number of zero emissions while being capable of whizzing past to a speed of 300 kilometers per hour from a standstill in under 12 seconds. The technology derived from the Mahindra Racing Formula E Team as well as the incredible work of the design specialists from around the globe has made the Battista quite simply, an astonishing achievement.
Elegance, speed, power, efficiency and innovation; the cumulative efforts of the Mahindra Racing Formula E team on the track and the Pininfarina designers and engineers in the factory have made sure that the Battista ticks all these checkboxes.
The Battista is one of the most enticing cars of the future generation; it is another brilliant byproduct of Mahindra’s ‘Race to Road’ philosophy and that is what makes it all so special!
