This is a special event is for people who love the Indy 500, fancy themselves as a great driver, may be clueless about making set-ups, need to blow off some steam, or whatever! I have always wanted to do this and this seems like a good time to do it.
This event will be a one-shot, winner-take-all, bragging rights contest over 500 miles using the iRacing fixed set-up! The winner will be able to say they are the best racer / strategist!
Qualifications : By 1900 UTC, up to 10 sessions (330 iRacers) will open up containing a 30-minute practice session followed by a 5-minute / 2 lap qualifying session. You get one shot to put down a fast time. If you do not enroll in the practice-qualifying session, you will not be included in the race sessions.
Heat Determination : After the qualifying sessions close, there is a 25-minute break where drivers will be distributed into heats based on qualifying times. The fastest 33 drivers get into the top split which will be broadcast (see below). Drivers who do not set a qualifying time will be allocated to heats (based on iRating, alphabetical, Customer ID, or other method).
Race : At 2000 UTC, up to 10 race sessions (fewer if that is all that is needed for the number of participants) will open up containing a 10-minute practice session followed by a 200-lap race. iRacing rules will be in effect with no quick repairs and no penalty relief. Again, you get one shot to earn the title of best Indy 500 iRacer!
